Brainy then decides to go see Occultus to offer him a deal: in exchange for the big pile of nuggets, the mage will have to leave. The shining ore being useless to the Smurfs, he had simply stored it in the bottom of a gallery. He then discovers that Dopey Smurf had once found a large amount of gold while looking for coal in the mine. The village falls to the abandonment and Brainy finds himself very alone. But although aware that it is only a dream, he nevertheless remains hypnotized like the others by the machine. Papa Smurf himself explains to Brainy that he is reliving a childhood memory with a tree fairy named Florina whom he once rescued. Most of the Smurfs mine nuggets daily and all line up for a few dreamy minutes. Eventually, everyone gets involved except for Brainy, who is handicapped by his failing eyesight, but who sees the life of the village profoundly changed day by day. The next day, Papa Smurf allows the six Smurfs to operate the mine, but the other villagers also want to try the dream machine. Amazed by what he has seen, he reveals to Brainy the prodigy of the machine and against all odds, wishes to continue to provide gold, supposedly to continue his research. The plate having been placed in the reserve, Papa Smurf decides to try it alone… only to come out much later. The latter beg Papa Smurf to reuse the dream machine before it goes out, the leader then understanding that it is only a means to extract gold from them. One day, however, Timber Smurf spots one of them with a green cape and thanks to Tailor Smurf's instructions on what looks like a miner's cape, Papa Smurf goes to the mine with a few Smurfs and embark the crystal plate to the dismay of the six Smurfs. The days pass without the six Smurfs reappearing in the village, too busy mining: from morning to evening, they extract from their labor six nuggets which they give to the crow before living their dreams until late at night, completely cut off from reality. They discover there the presence of the mage Occultus working on his own crystal plate but are hardly advanced on the intention of the two men4. Papa Smurf then asks the rest of the village to spot the slightest clue in the forest and leaves the next day for Gargamel with Brainy. ![]() They can thus hide while being close to the gold to be extracted. Aware of Papa Smurf's probable arrival and not wanting the spell to end, the burly Smurf decides to act while the two wizards agree to bring back the gold through Albine, the crow of Occultus.īrainy leads Papa Smurf to the dead tree but finds nothing there and no one there and for good reason, the six Smurfs have taken the crystal plate to the old mine. Through the crystal plate, Occultus now requires each of them a nugget of gold that they must place in a pot near the tree, otherwise the wonders he makes them live will definitely end. The two wizards do not like each other but have teamed up to extract gold from the Smurfs, although Gargamel's motives are more personal. It turns out that the mage Occultus uses his magic to hold the six Smurfs in his power. The latter smells a trap and immediately thinks of Gargamel and a possible accomplice more gifted than him in the matter. Incredulous, Brainy leaves to warn Papa Smurf. The other Smurfs explain to him that they can live out their wildest dreams. Brainy tries his turn but his myopia prevents him from seeing anything. They discover them in the hollow of a dead tree having fun in front of a shiny plate and wearing magic glasses. Brainy then proposes to follow them into the forest the next day. ![]() Papa Smurf has had enough but wants to find out what's going on. The next day, Handy, Harmony, and Timid join them in the forest and in the evening, the six Smurfs are missing… before returning late at night very happy.
